I feel torn as to who my audience is for my research project. I feel that my end user profile should be geared towards students so that I can figure out how to best serve them. On the other hand, my final results will help guide teachers that have students who are not at grade level in reading and continue to struggle year after year. I have been so focused on the action research and what I can do to help them that I lost sight of my end goal. Yes, I want to see progress in student reading comprehension, but that will only happen if I can figure out how to show significant gain in my test results. Then and only then will I be able to share this information with others and have a continuing impact in education.
Just as Baggio references her yoga teacher, I too need visuals. I keep reading and reading this portion of the assignment and I am really struggling with what to write. I don’t understand what the final product of a resource page looks like. I tried looking up Touro’s capstones online so I could get a visual and I wasn’t able to find any. I also looked in the class folders and I couldn’t anything about Capstones. I know that we were briefly shown one, but I can’t recall the details or how to get back to the completed capstone projects. My project is all about how technology impacts reading comprehension, so I would imagine that it might be a list of different technology tools that aid in reading comprehension. I would use the use of heading, visuals (icons), hyperlinks and chunking of text to show several different technology tools, not just the one that was used in the study.

I agree that it is VERY hard to complete some of these assignments without knowing what a final capstone is. The samples that we viewed were a little helpful but I do not see how my action research is going to create one of these capstone projects. I am hoping that this will become more clear. I also struggled with who my audience is. I think that most of us have our students as our focus for our research but that other teachers will be able to use the data.

If it helps, I think the majority of us are walking through the fog, feeling our way down the road. I believe the Capstone is going to be a website that is a resource for someone looking for information on our personal research. I envision on the website our research paper, maybe a short video, some graphics, possibly a survey, a tutorial or a lesson plan that could be shared. After emailing with Lisa G., I believe our "product" could be as simple as a lesson plan, a short how to video or model of the steps to take to apply what you have learned.

Jayne's got a good understanding! So, on the one hand, we don't want to tell you what your capstone ought to be because then all your work would look the same. We want you to contribute to the body of knowledge out there, so you are in some sense floating on the edge of uncharted waters. That's why the program is called Innovations in Education. It would be nice to know where you are headed, but sometimes Innovators have to blaze new trails. Having said that, yes, think of it as building a toolkit so that after you blaze the trail, others can follow behind you. You are collecting assets and resources as you go, sharing data, providing other readings on your topic, and putting that all on a website for others to access.

After reading your blog I all of a sudden saw the bigger picture. I had already posted my blog, but yours gave me some ideas. I think that the reason they are not showing us examples of capstones is because they want us to experience what a student without visuals might feel especially since most people are visual learners. I think that after we go through this process when they do show us examples it will become clearer and we will finally see the light :)

Stephanie, I am having a similar felling at times. I am a visual learner myself and feel like even when I think I know what is being asked of us, I still need the visuals to confirm it.

Stephanie, thank you for voicing your concerns and opening this dialogue, I too have been frustrated by the lack of models.
