The idea of sense making and the TPACK framework is becoming clearer as I move through my own learned curve. Before starting this program I tried to implement technology into my classroom, but I found it extremely frustrating. How do I teach third graders how to use technology in the classroom? I am now learning how to effectively incorporate technology beyond paper and pencil or white board work. Technology is not only the context in which I teach, but the motivator for my students to succeed.
This process of designing a prototype has been challenging for me. I know what I want to achieve but I didn’t know how to address this huge task. Asking me to create something when I am still learning seemed to be a huge hurdle that I had to overcome. With guidance during my one on one appointment, I now have an idea of how to expand my project. Today I have spent all day working on school work and I finally had time to play around with technology to determine what my final piece could possibly look like. Using avatars as a different way to assess students is fun and can easily be added to Google forms or as an assignment in Google Classroom. I now have a direction that I feel confident in creating a final product for my Capstone.

I'm so glad to hear that you are finally getting an idea of what your project will look like. I feel somewhat similar. I played around with a site called storyboardthat.com and I think I want to use this in my final project. You might want to check it out also. They have all different kinds of characters to play around with. I felt it was easy to use. I'll let you know how it goes with my second graders.

Relieved for you that you have found direction. I too have been feeling unsure of which direction to go. I am using Google Slides as part of my project and I am interested in seeing what you mean by using Avatars with Google. This may be something I could use with my students to futher engage them.

I'm so glad you have direction! That's such a great feeling when you finally feel like your standing on a little more even ground. I loved what you said about technology; it reminded me of the book I am reading for class. I am only at the beginning but the author is talking about the importance of extending the way we use technology in the classroom farther than what we can do with pencil and paper. He says otherwise we are just giving out students "thousand-dollar pencils." For some reason that phrase really stuck with me and your blog reminded me of it again. Thanks!

That is great that you now have a clear idea of where you want your capstone to go. I too feel overwhelmed with the prototype. I know what I want to do and the steps I will take but, to put that into a mind map was a bit of a challenge for me. Using Avatars sounds very engaging I think your students will love it.
